A night out at a music festival in Hamtramck turned into a nightmare for a group of women who were held at gunpoint, carjacked and sexually assaulted early Saturday.

The incident, which prompted plans for increased police patrols Saturday night, during the three-day Metro Times Blowout music festival in the city, ended with a 21-year-old Hamtramck man in custody.

According to Hamtramck Acting Police Chief Max Garbarino and Detective Derek Suwalkowksi, here is what happened:

Two women were in an Oldsmobile Silhouette in a parking lot by the Painted Lady bar on Jacob Street about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, waiting for two girlfriends to get into the minivan after a night out.

Hamtramck— A girl’s night out at the annual Metro Times Blowout music event ended violently early Saturday when a Hamtramck man kidnapped three women at gunpoint outside a bar, forced them to drive into Detroit and sexually assaulted them, police said.

The attack has officials in this city — better known for its vibrant arts scene and nightlife — disturbed. Just five days earlier, two other women were abducted.

DETROIT (WWJ) – Three women were the victims of a carjacking and sexual assault in Hamtramck.

WWJ Newsradio 950′s Beth Fisher reports that four women were leaving the Painted Lady Bar in Hamtramck early Saturday morning.
