As federal agents investigate connections between vendors and Wayne County officials, some contractors and commissioners are questioning how a politically connected firm ended up with one of the biggest public works projects in years.
Contractors contacted by The Detroit News said they believe the Walbridge construction company was favored from the beginning for a $220 million contract to build a jail.

Ortega-Hernandez was arraigned Thursday in Pittsburgh. He allegedly fired nine shots at the White House last Friday with an assault rifle.
One bullet hit a window in the 2nd floor living quarters. The president wasn’t there and no one was hurt.

A second experiment at the European facility that reported subatomic particles zooming faster than the speed of light — stunning the world of physics — has reached the same result, scientists said late Thursday.
The “positive outcome of the [second] test makes us more confident in the result,” said Fernando Ferroni, president of the Italian Institute for Nuclear Physics, in a statement released late Thursday.
